Kotha ("we", "us", "our") is a reading app for Assamese and other regional-language books. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. By using Kotha you agree to this policy.

You can read free books without creating an account. As a guest:
Signing in is optional. It lets your bookmarks and reading progress sync across devices. If you sign in, we collect:

We do not use passwords. Sign-in is by a one-time code sent to your email.
Aggregate reading activity: we count how many signed-in readers have opened a book to power sections like "Trending" and "Most Read". These lists show only book-level counts. They never show who the readers are.
Usage analytics (Firebase Analytics): which screens you open, which features you use, app version, device model, operating system, language and approximate location (derived from IP address, not precise GPS). This helps us understand how Kotha is used and improve it.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your email address, bookmarks or reading progress with advertisers.
When you sign in, bookmarks and reading progress stored on your device as a guest are uploaded to your account so they are not lost.
We share information only with service providers who help us run Kotha, and only as needed:
These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users and Kotha.
Your data is processed and stored on servers operated by our providers, which may be located outside India. We take reasonable steps to protect it wherever it is stored.

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to access information about your personal data, request correction and erasure, nominate another person to exercise your rights, and raise a grievance. To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address above. We will respond within a reasonable time.
Kotha is a general reading app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18 without verifiable parental consent, and we do not track or show behaviourally targeted (personalised) ads to users we know to be under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and access controls on our database. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
The books available in Kotha are in the public domain or made available under an open licence or with the permission of the rights holder. We respect the rights of authors, publishers and their heirs.

We will review your request promptly and, where the claim appears valid, remove the content while we investigate further.
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
