eBookWorm Privacy Policy
Effective date: 12 October 2026
Last updated: 12 October 2026
eBookWorm ("we", "us", "our") is a free reading app for classic and public-domain books. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. By using eBookWorm you agree to this policy.

1. Using eBookWorm as a guest
You can browse and read free books without creating an account. As a guest:
- We do not ask for your name, email or any sign-in.
- Your bookmarks, reading progress and book highlights are stored only on your device until you sign in.
- Downloaded books, the optional dictionary pack, appearance settings and daily reading reminders stay on your device.
- If you uninstall the app or clear its data, this information is lost.
2. Information we collect when you sign in
Signing in is optional. It lets your bookmarks, reading progress and book highlights sync across devices. If you sign in, we collect:
| Information |
Why we collect it |
| Email address |
To sign you in with a one-time code and to identify your account |
| Display name and profile picture (if you add them) |
To personalise your profile |
| Reading font preference |
To remember how you like to read |
| Bookmarks (which books you saved) |
To show your saved books on all your devices |
| Reading progress (your last position in each book) |
To let you continue where you left off |
| Book highlights and notes |
To keep your marked passages and notes synced across devices |
We do not use passwords. Sign-in is by a one-time code sent to your email.
Story highlights (in short stories) currently stay on your device and are not synced to your account.
3. Information we collect automatically
- Catalog and reading requests: when you browse or open a book or story, your device requests that content from our servers. Standard server logs (such as IP address, device type and timestamps) may be kept briefly for security and troubleshooting.
- Aggregate reading activity: we count how many readers have opened a book to power sections like "Trending" and "Most Read". For signed-in readers this uses an account-linked signal; for guests we may use a random device identifier stored on your phone. These lists show only book-level counts. They never show who the readers are.
- Push notification token (optional): if you allow notifications, we store a device push token (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) so we can send updates such as new books. You can turn notifications off in Profile at any time.
- Advertising data (Google AdMob): when ads are enabled, Google may collect your device's advertising ID, IP address and ad interaction data to show and measure ads (see section 6). Where required, we ask for your consent through Google's User Messaging Platform before personalised ads are requested.
- Local preferences: appearance (light/dark), reader theme, text size, unlocked fonts, ad-free unlock state and reminder times are stored on your device. Some of these never leave your phone.
We do not currently use Firebase Analytics or Crashlytics in eBookWorm. If we add usage analytics or crash reporting later, we will update this policy and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
4. How we use your information
- To provide and operate the app, including sign-in and syncing
- To remember your preferences
- To show popular and trending books
- To deliver optional push notifications you have allowed
- To show ads (when enabled), which help keep eBookWorm free — including rewarded videos that unlock fonts or temporary ad-free reading
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems
- To contact you about your account if needed (for example, sign-in emails)
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your email address, bookmarks, reading progress or highlights with advertisers.
5. Syncing guest data when you sign in
When you sign in, bookmarks, reading progress and book highlights stored on your device as a guest are uploaded to your account so they are not lost. Guest-only reading signals tied to your device may also be linked to your account at that time.
6. Who we share information with
We share information only with service providers who help us run eBookWorm, and only as needed:
- Supabase: hosts our database and authentication (account, bookmarks, reading progress, highlights, and sign-in emails).
- Cloudflare R2: stores book images, cover files, story media and optional dictionary packs. No personal account data is stored there.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging: delivers push notifications if you opt in. See Google's privacy policy and Firebase privacy information.
- Google AdMob: serves ads in the app when ads are enabled. Google and its partners may use your advertising ID and device information to show and measure ads, and, where you have allowed it, to personalise them. See how Google uses data from apps that use its services.
- Hosting for our admin and account-deletion pages (currently Render): processes account-deletion requests you submit through our web form.
These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of users and eBookWorm.
7. Where your data is stored
Your data is processed and stored on servers operated by our providers, which may be located outside India. We take reasonable steps to protect it wherever it is stored.
8. How long we keep your data
- Account data, bookmarks, reading progress and synced highlights are kept while your account is active.
- When you delete your account, we delete this data from our systems within 30 days, except where we must keep limited records for legal or security reasons.
- Guest data stays on your device until you remove it or uninstall the app.
- Push tokens are removed or stop being used when you turn off notifications or uninstall the app.
9. Your choices and rights
You can:
- Access and correct your profile information in the app (where editing is offered)
- Remove bookmarks and highlights at any time
- Delete your account and data via Profile → Delete account (opens our deletion request form at ebookworm-admin.onrender.com/delete-account) or by emailing ebookworm@itmaverickapps.com from your registered address
- Withdraw consent by signing out or deleting your account
- Control notifications in Profile → Notifications
- Control ads: where required by law we show a consent form before personalised ads. On Android, you can also go to Settings → Google → Ads to reset your advertising ID or opt out of ads personalisation. Opting out does not remove ads, but they will be less relevant. You can also watch a rewarded video for temporary ad-free reading when that option is offered.
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to access information about your personal data, request correction and erasure, nominate another person to exercise your rights, and raise a grievance. To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address above. We will respond within a reasonable time.
10. Children
eBookWorm is a general reading app and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18 without verifiable parental consent, and we do not track or show behaviourally targeted (personalised) ads to users we know to be under 18. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and access controls on our database. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Book content and copyright
The books and stories available in eBookWorm are in the public domain or made available under an open licence or with the permission of the rights holder. We respect the rights of authors, publishers and their heirs.
If you believe a work in eBookWorm is being made available in a way that infringes your rights or violates the terms of its licence, please email ebookworm@itmaverickapps.com with:
- the title of the work and, if possible, a link or screenshot,
- a description of your claim and your relationship to the work (author, heir, publisher, etc.),
- your name and contact details.
We will review your request promptly and, where the claim appears valid, remove the content while we investigate further.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
